Description: Portfolio of Quality Educational Web Resources:
The Portfolio of Quality Educational Web Resources assignment is intended to expand your horizons and at the same time allow you to spend the time and effort to find quality educational Web resources for your classroom. Relevant is a key word for this assignment and you are the one who determines relevant. Find quality Web resources that are relevant for you and your instructional responsibilities. (Note: A common complaint among teachers is they don't have time to search the Web for material - this assignment is intended to give you that time.)

How do I keep track of all these quality resources? That’s always a good question and people have gone through many personal transitions from having them bookmarked (or in favorites), on sheets of paper in a folder, on index cards, in a Word document, on a Website (where they created the Web pages), and most recently, using wikis and social bookmarking sites!

For this course, you will use a social bookmarking site to record all of your Web resources! We will categorize our Web resources by topic, and the most important part for identifying bookmarks by topic on a social bookmarking site is the concept of tags. With all of your Web resources, you will need four items: a title, the URL, and a brief description (the brief description can be copied from the site!), and most importantly, the tag.

Process for Determining Categories:
I am an eighth grade math teacher so almost all web resources cited on my delicious page are associated with my content area. I decided to base my categories on the different concepts that I teach. Some of these concepts are Pre-Algebra, Algebra, Number _Operations etc. All web resources associated with these tabs would be used instruction. I have one tab that it devoted specifically to games. These are games that associated with middle school math and the everyday concepts my students will encounter throughout the year. There are also tags that are more specifically for me as the teacher and would be helpful for me in the lesson planning process. (Math Standards, School Resources, Textbook Resources, Video Clips, Rubrics, Concept Maps, Worksheets, etc.) Lastly I have several tabs that will be helpful for me to prepare webquests for classroom use in the future. (Webquests and Money Math)

Reflection:
I found Delicious to be a very helpful website. I like the fact that by accessing one web page I am able to have complete access to all links and web resources that I need or may use on a daily basis for classroom use and for planning purposes. I also like how I am able to categorize all the web resources that I have found. By categorizing my websites I am now able to quickly find a web resources based on the topic I am looking for. I have never worked with a web bookmarking site before and I have to say that working with Delicious has been a great experience. In the past I have only ever used "My Favorites" on my internet explorer which we all know is only available one specific computer. The fact that I can access my Delicious from any computer is the best part about this resource. I plan to continue to add resources to my Delicious and share the idea of Delicious with my colleagues.
